Connect With Us
The SCI has global research links with over 40 universities and research institutes, 100 companies, and with policy makers in the UK, EU and major world organisations. We are currently academic advisors on a knowledge hub to reduce carbon in the Tesco supply chain providing access to academic input, expertise and innovative research for participating suppliers. We are looking forward to exploring new joint research initiatives with leading international companies such as Kraft and Nestlé.
By broadening the SCI's network of links to policy makers across a wide range of organisations, we increase our research capacity and impact. Direct engagement with Defra in 2009 resulted in the appointment of SCI project liaisons being identified within Defra. The International Review of Behaviour Change Initiatives written for the Scottish Government has been cited in Scottish Parliament and informed drafts of Scottish housing policy. Parliamentary evidence on issues about sustainable food supply and demand, as well as challenges facing the food supply chain, was submitted to the Sustainable Food inquiry, Environmental Audit Committee.
As an example of the impact of our work, SCI funded research for Green & Black’s on the sustainability of Fairtrade cocoa production in the Dominican Republic (DR) resulted in increased investment in that area of approximately £4 million over 10 years, to ensure the sustainability of the DR’s cocoa growing communities on the key areas of farmer livelihoods, education, child development and rural communities as highlighted by the research.
