Knowledge Hub

We are currently advising Tesco and 2degrees in developing a knowledge hub (KH) to reduce carbon in the Tesco supply chain. This project provides an opportunity to learn the potential of a KH as a vehicle to exchange knowledge in particular areas with a collaborative network, in this case between academia and industry.

The Tesco Carbon Reduction Knowledge Hub is a private group for Tesco and its suppliers to share information and best practice learning on carbon reduction across their supply chain. The knowledge hub offers its members a range of activities throughout the year, the majority online, including webinars, videos, discussion forums, case studies and resources. The knowledge hub also hosts regular face-to-face activities such as semi-annual review meetings awards, conferences and sector-specific events.

As a member of the advisory board the SCI's role within the group is:

  • to provide feedback about the monthly knowledge hub content plan, advising whether activities are valuable and relevant;
  • to make suggestions for activities and put forward speakers to address the most pressing and current issues;
  • and to engage in forum discussions when relevant to one of our areas of expertise.

The knowledge hub currently has just under 300 members, and is poised to grow further in 2012 (minimum of 500 suppliers is expected by end of 2012). Through research conversations with Tesco and its suppliers, the following areas will be the focus for activities in the knowledge hub have been identified in the year to come:

1.  Carbon footprinting
2.  Customer engagement
3.  Design and innovation
4.  Employee engagement
5.  Energy reduction
6.  Monitoring and reporting
7.  Supplier engagement
8.  Supply chain standards
9.  Transportation and distribution
10.Waste reduction

2degrees is the global community for sustainable business professionals. The 2degrees web site is divided into a series of working groups which fall under 3 content portfolios (Supply Chain, Built Environment and Business Operations), each focusing on different aspects of sustainable business, and each managed by an in-house team of subject experts.
