Climate Week Event: Influencing consumer behaviourAn invitation only stakeholder event

We want to focus on what research tells us about how we can influence consumer behaviour to make it more sustainable; we have arranged brief presentations from 4 speakers:

 

Geoffrey Beattie, SCI Associate Professor, will speak about his about some of the psychological work he’s been doing on assessing consumers’ attitudes to environmental issues (for example differences between explicit and implicit attitudes)

 

David Evans, SCI Lecturer and Research Fellow, will talk about his ethnographic research that went in to people’s homes to explore the stories that lie behind the startling amount of food that is currently wasted by UK household.

 

Helen Fleming, Climate Change Director, Tesco will focus on consumers - the barriers they face to reduce their carbon footprint, and how Tesco are working to overcome these barriers through information, price promotions and working with their suppliers; and

 

Owen Gibbons, Executive Adviser, WWF-UK will present "From Footprint to Mindprint: engaging values for environmental behaviour change"

 

Professor Alistair Ulph, SCI Director, will Chair a Question and Answer session following the presentations. The session will be followed by lunch.
