Visiting guidelines

The visiting researcher programme at the Sustainable Consumption Institute (SCI) is open to researchers employed in universities or other appropriate organisations who wish to spend time in Manchester working on their own research. Visiting researchers are assigned an academic advisor during their stay.

Applicants must identify an appropriate SCI academic staff member who is willing to host the visit and shares relevant research interests. A full list of SCI staff is available on our 'People' page.

Once agreed, the Academic Visitor request will be initiated by a SCI staff member via the official request form (shared upon agreement), approved by the relevant Head of School or Department, and submitted to our Global Mobility team for approval prior to the start of the visit.

Requests must be submitted with all required documentation, including (where applicable) ATAS and export clearance, a CV, passport, and the official request form. These must be submitted at least four weeks in advance for UK-based visitors and 12 weeks in advance for international visitors.

Academic visitors may be appointed for a period of between one and 12 months. A bench fee is charged to cover university costs, currently set at £5,400 per year (£450 per month).
